Al Farrington
Quote he lives by: "Those who put the interests of others ahead of their own live longer, happier, more productive lives than those who don’t.” – Scott Galloway (Professor, NYU)
Al is a retired, formally trained accountant who previously worked in the TV News Broadcasting sector as Manager of Finance and Administration. He is currently a start-up Policy and Infrastructure Advisor, handling financial matters and liaising with the CRA.
In 2003, Al was diagnosed with Bipolar 1 and has struggled with its ups and downs every year since. Remarkably, he has managed without professional assistance or medication since 2007.
Al believes that youth are the future of the country. Shockingly, up to 20-40% of them experience a mental health episode of some kind that impedes their progress. Al is committed to supporting youth in reaching their true potential and achieving success.
Al serves on the boards of community non-profits that deliver services to the most vulnerable community members, particularly immigrants and visible minorities. Additionally, he is a Toastmaster and founding member of two District 60 (Toronto) clubs, where he mentors new members.
We would like to acknowledge the traditional territories of the peoples of the Treaty 7 region in Southern Alberta, which includes the Blackfoot First Nation tribes of Siksika, the Piikuni, the Kainai, the Stoney Nakoda First Nations tribes of Chiniki, Bearspaw, and Wesley and the Tsuut’ina First Nation. The city of Calgary is also homeland to the historic Northwest Métis and to Métis Nation of Alberta, Region 3. We pay our respects to the Elders, past and present, and extend our gratitude for their wisdom and teachings.
As settlers, we are committed to reconciliation, understanding, and building positive relationships with the Indigenous communities. We are humbled by the privilege to call these lands home and will never take it for granted.
